Members of the Renovations to Existing Academic Buildings (REAB) project team with UMass facilities will be investigating mechanical systems on the upper three floors of Wheatley and McCormack halls for two weeks beginning on Friday. The team will examine vacant spaces first.

This project team will set up ladders and remove ceiling panels in most offices, corridors, and various spaces. This investigatory work will help the project team prepare for mechanical upgrades slated to begin in August.

REAB will address instructional environments and public spaces on the first two floors of Wheatley and McCormack. The project also includes upgrades to the buildings’ utility systems, which will improve the indoor environment and air quality throughout the buildings.

All 14 elevators in Wheatley and McCormack, the Quinn Administration Building and Clark Athletic Center will be replaced in phases beginning in July and continuing through 2018. Crews are currently prepping the elevator mechanical areas in Wheatley and McCormack.

The REAB construction schedule will be phased so that work will be limited to certain building areas at certain times. This will limit impacts to occupants and maintain an adequate number of classrooms at all times. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2018.

Building occupants will be kept informed as planning and work progress.
