Leading-edge Thinkers to Take Part in Oct. 20 Forum at the University of Massachusetts Boston
Today registration opens for IDEAS Boston, the forum that brings leading-edge thinkers and innovators together to showcase the innovation and creativity coming from Boston and the surrounding region. The forum will take place on Oct. 20, 2011 at IDEAS Boston’s new home, the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Since its founding by The Boston Globe in 2004, IDEAS Boston has attracted New England’s premier thought leaders to present their latest – and sometimes their next – big ideas. The day-long conference, a fast-paced format of lively presentations, artistic breaks, and networking and discussions – moderated by award-winning journalist Tom Ashbrook, host of NPR/WBUR’s national news-talk show On Point – promotes innovation and collaboration across a wide range of disciplines, from design to business and economics to medicine and health care to the law.
“I’m looking forward to the meeting of great minds at the University of Massachusetts Boston this fall,” said Chancellor J. Keith Motley. “Our speakers represent such an incredible diversity of thought, talent, and experience, and I know they’re going to stir up fascinating conversations. This year and every year, IDEAS Boston will be a brainstorm to be part of on our campus.”
This year’s speakers range from an award-winning filmmaker, to the cofounder of a lifesaving equipment company that makes a real-life version of Batman’s grappling setup, to an expert and advocate of barefoot running.
Speakers confirmed to date include:
- Chef Jody Adams
- Poet and activist Marjorie Agosin
- Inventor and entrepreneur Nathan Ball
- Financial strategist and author Daryl Collins
- Filmmaker Chico Colvard
- Surgeon and musician Claudius Conrad
- Museum curator Elliot Davis
- Physician and medical IT expert John Halamka
