Ten test piles will be driven into the ground at the General Academic Building No. 1 (GAB No. 1) construction site starting this week. The work is currently scheduled to start on Wednesday, April 3 and will continue through mid-April.

The piles will test the load-bearing capacity of the building’s foundation. The task is necessary to prepare for the placement of 260 more piles, which will support the work that will begin later this spring.

The pile driving will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each weekday in the northeast corner of campus adjacent to the Campus Center.

The work will create noise for our campus community and neighbors. The construction manager will be monitoring noise and vibration levels and making every effort to minimize the disturbance; however, we ask that you bear with us as we complete this initial test pile driving project.

Crews have removed the pavement on the site, disconnected and removed parking lot lights, dug test pits where the future 500-seat auditorium will be, and began rerouting a water line that crosses the entrance to the Campus Center Garage.
