Beacons Hockey Finishes Up for 2013; Frozen Fenway Set for January 7

The University of Massachusetts Boston men’s hockey team ends 2013 in great position, with just one tournament remaining before the January 7 Frozen Fenway game against Salem State University.

The Beacons (7-1-2) knocked off Wentworth Institute of Technology 9-2 on Friday night. Frankie DeAugustine, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, had a career-high four goals in the win. The team will play next on January 4 against Suffolk University in the 46th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament.

Women’s Basketball
The Beacons (6-2) were 1-1 on the week, including a 72-49 win over Westfield State University. Junior Kirsten Morrison of North Reading posted a game-high 23 points in just 29 minutes of action. UMass Boston returns to action on December 30, when they host Husson University.

Men’s Basketball
The UMass Boston (3-5) men’s basketball team will look to pick up their first conference win of the year when they return from winter break. Junior Carl Joseph of Brockton picked up 24 points in Saturday’s loss to Rhode Island College, which was the team’s only game of the week.

Women’s Soccer
Junior Krista Ledin was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s (ECAC) New England Offensive Player of the Year on Friday. She was also named to the 2013 ECAC Division III New England Women's Soccer All-Star team. Senior midfielder Samantha Cristoforo joined Ledin on the first team, while senior Alli Modzelewski and sophomore Kristen Spain were recognized as second team honorees.

Men’s Tennis and Track and Field
UMass Boston’s 2013 Little East Conference champion men’s tennis team and individual and relay track champions were honored last week in a ring ceremony in the Clark Athletic Center.
