Women’s Tennis Team Begins Playoff Run Today

The UMass Boston women's tennis team (6-9) is aiming for their first postseason team win in program history today. They’ll face UMass Dartmouth in the Little East Conference Quarterfinals at 3 p.m.

“It’s a big thrill to get into the playoffs. The one thing that’s helped us is we haven’t had any easy matches. We know day in and day out that we’re going to have to battle and play tough from top to bottom,” said Head Coach Eric Berg.

The Beacons clinched the playoff spot with a 6-3 win over Plymouth State University on Saturday. Freshman Nuha Muntasser of Braintree picked up her fourth Little East Conference Rookie of the Week award on Monday.

Women’s Soccer
The Beacons (13-4) picked up wins over Western New England University and Keene State College and moved to sole possession of first place in the LEC. Krista Ledin, a junior from Bridgewater, picked up her third LEC Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring 10 goals in three games. Freshman back/midfielder KK DeCosta of Brockton was named the Rookie of the Week award for helping hold the Beacons opponents to 1.00 goals per game in the last three contests.

Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer team (9-6-1) lost both matches this week. The Beacons host Massachusetts Maritime Academy today at 3 p.m.

Women’s Volleyball
The Beacons (14-13) remain undefeated (4-0) in LEC play. They face LEC foe Eastern Connecticut State University tonight at 7. For the second straight week, senior Megan Pollock of Wilton, California and freshman Elizabeth Glavan of Edina, Minnesota have been named the LEC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
