This Week in Beacons Sports: Baseball Erases 5-Run Deficit With Walk-Off Win in Florida

Beacons Return from Spring Break Trip

The University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons came back from a five-run deficit in the ninth inning to defeat Bethel University, 8-7 on Thursday. Anthony Gomes-Sirianni, a junior from San Francisco, had the game-winning double. The Beacons (5-4) also picked up two wins against St. Joseph University last week in Fort Myers, Florida. A doubleheader at Eastern Connecticut State University starts at noon on Saturday.

Men’s Lacrosse
The Beacons (4-4) lost both of their games in Florida, but rebounded for a 19-7 win over Emerson College on Saturday. John Powers, a junior from Marshfield, led the team with six goals and an assist. UMass Boston faces Nichols College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Softball
After a tough trip to Florida, the Beacons (2-5) picked up a 1-0 victory over Trinity College. Michelle Zullo, a junior from Everett, earned the win. A doubleheader against Bridgewater State University starts at 3 p.m. on Friday at UMass Boston.

Men’s Tennis
Men’s tennis (0-5) is hoping a return to New England will result in their first win of the season. They face Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday at 3 p.m. The team dropped their only game last week, 9-0 to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Women’s Tennis
Following a 5-4 loss to Smith College in Tampa, Florida, the women’s tennis team (6-13) now looks ahead to the Beacons Invitational on April 13.
