The University of Massachusetts Boston's College of Nursing and Health Sciences marked National Nurses Day, May 6, by presenting Penny Greenberg, MS, RN, executive vice president and chief nursing officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (BID-Needham) and a 2002 UMass Boston graduate, with the 2013 Nurses Week Leadership in Quality Innovation award.
Dean Anahid Kulwicki also presented community service awards to Undergraduate Nursing Program Director Adrienne Wald, EdD, MBA, RN, CHES; Katie Kafel, MS,RN; and the nursing student volunteers who were part of the medical sweep team at the Boston Marathon finish area and pressed into action following the Boston Marathon bombings.
The Student Nurses Association (SNA) organized the event as part of CNHS Nurses Week. The week's theme was nurses delivering quality and innovation in patient care.
On May 8, National Student Nurses Day, the SNA showed the film Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare. CNHS faculty members Margaret McAllister, Jerry Cromwell, and Adrienne Wald led the discussion that followed.
