The Center for Civil Discourse, with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, will a host a forum, “Civility and American Democracy,” on February 17 and 18, 2012 at UMass Boston. The forum will explore civil discourse, the tension in its theory and practice, and its place in American democracy.  Nationally recognized humanities scholars, including Diana Eck, Randall Kennedy, Jill Lepore, and Austin Sarat among others, will participate.

The forum will engage a broad audience through radio and television broadcasts and live streaming on the Internet. An online community will participate before and after the events, extending the public conversation throughout the year and engaging ordinary citizens in the process of examination and discovery.

Seats are still available for the Friday sessions of this free forum. By invitation only, Saturday's sessions are reserved for academic reflection.

For disability-related accommodations, including dietary accommodations, please visit two weeks prior to the event.
