Colloquium: Sports Conflict Institute with Guest Speaker Josh Gordon

Event Date: February 27, 2014 - 3 p.m.
Location: Campus Center, 3rd floor Room 3545

Speaker Josh Gordon is an alumnus of the Conflict Resolution Department.

The Sports Conflict Institute (SCI) supports competitive goals in athletics through understanding, preventing, and resolving destructive conflicts that occur both inside and outside the lines. SCI serves as a resource center and provides a range of services to help manage risk and optimize performance. Conflict is inevitable, but how we respond determines whether success follows or costs mount.

SCI supports organizational and individual goals through education, research, and service focusing on sports conflict. Closely connecting classroom learning to real world problems challenges the value of abstract theories and ensures their relevance in a rapidly changing world. Our interdisciplinary approach is based on the assumption that good conflict management is good for sports, good for the business of sports, and good for society. Every day there is a sports conflict that makes national headlines. SCI is dedicated to minimizing these destructive costs, by looking far below the tip of the iceberg, and fostering the positive value sports can provide to both participants and spectators
