NEW VOICES, NEW STORIES: A Celebration of Student Playwrights (Opening Night)
The UMass Boston Performing Arts Department continues its year-long festival by producing two new one-act plays written by recent alumni under the direction of guest artist Courtney O’Connor.
The Ontology Ward centers on a Rhode Island bar owner contesting the claim of his cousin, a transgender woman, on the family estate, which has historically been entailed to a male heir. Pete Riesenberg '12 poses questions of identity, legitimacy, and elitism in this witty and contentious drama. In Argyles, Cat Roberts '14 explores themes of miscommunication, prejudice, and violence through a series of intense scenes in which characters’ wildly different perceptions of a situation have tragic results.
