Working at the United Nations: An Insider’s Perspective on UN Careers

Event Date: April 12, 2012 - 4 p.m.
Location: Healey Library, 11th Floor, 0011A

On April 12, Harris Gleckman, senior fellow at the Center for Governance and Sustainability, director of Benchmark Environmental Consulting, and a retired UN official, will speak about careers at the United Nations.
Dr. Gleckman has 25 years of experience in various agencies of the UN system on corporate, environmental, trade, and finance issues. He has served as chief of the Environment Unit at the UN Centre on Transnational Corporations and worked on the 1992 Rio Conference on Environment and Development. He was also stationed in the Geneva office of the UN Secretary-General and at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); served as an economic advisor to the G77 in New York during the run up to the 2005 Heads of State Summit; and was chief of the UNCTAD NY Office. He coordinated the high-level informal dialogues at the 2002 Financing for Development Conference, and directed outreach programs to national economic and trade ministries.
This will be a unique opportunity for students to hear an insider‘s perspective on how the UN operates and what career opportunities the UN has to offer.

The lecture is open to the UMass Boston community.
