Mariya Deykute

Additional Information

Mariya Deykute is a second year MFA student in Poetry. While she certainly writes a lot of autobiographical poetry, she has always written both memoir and fiction as well, winning several awards and publications. Mariya has been teaching for almost ten years, starting out tutoring ESL in Brooklyn and moving on to teach undergraduates at UMass Boston. She has taught workshops in both fiction and poetry, but memoir writing has increasingly been her interest since collecting stories from Holocaust survivors in New York for a non-profit, and becoming acquainted with her own family history.
