Tom Fitzgibbon was a deputy associate director of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory and a member of the team that designed the Guidance and Control system for the Apollo spacecraft. His role was to build a simulation facility used to proof the software for the onboard computers. This facility was also used to train the astronauts in controlling the spacecraft as well as practicing the flight sequence procedures.
