Message from the Director of Public Safety
Each day of the year, the men and women of the Department of Public Safety at the University of Massachusetts Boston provide a wide range of services to the community in which they work. Law enforcement service, emergency medical assistance, criminal investigations, crime prevention, escorts, assistance to stranded motorists and traffic and parking control enforcement are examples of such services
All University of Massachusetts Boston Police Officers have the same training and authority as police officers throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In addition, several university police officers serve as instructors for the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council in such areas as firearms, use of chemical defensive sprays, first aid, CPR, report writing and defensive tactics. The department is committed to obtaining the maximum level of training for its members in order to provide the highest quality of service to the community.
We are here to protect, serve and assist the university community. To that end, we will continually seek to improve the level and quality of these services we deliver. The constant societal and demographic changes in our community require us to make diversity and adaptability top priorities. Through the promotion of total quality management approach to our work, I am confident that we will continue to be responsive to and meet the needs of our community. I speak for all of the members of the Department of Public Safety in requesting your cooperation in our efforts to make the University of Massachusetts Boston community a safe and pleasant place in which to learn and work.
Director of Public Safety
