The Department of Mathematics shares the mission of the University of Massachusetts Boston, and that is to serve the academic interests of the students at the university while providing a quality education that serves the needs of the community. All of the students who take courses within the Department of Mathematics at UMass Boston are valued members of the UMass Boston community. It is the goal of the department to instill in these students an appreciation for mathematics as well as to teach these students analytic skills that can be used across disciplines.
