Sustainable Value Chains

Promoting sustainability in global value chains along the triple bottom line - environmental quality, social equity and economic prosperity - is a complex development effort involving numerous global and local stakeholders. Part of this process is the development of sustainability standards and certifications across industries. Dr. Stephan Manning is studying standard development and diffusion in particular in global food commodity chains. His research focuses on the competition and collaboration between standard setters, the role of multinational corporations in developing and implementing standards, and implications for global and regional economic development.
