Celebrating You and U54
December 10, 2010
J. Keith Motley, PhD, UMass Boston Chancellor
I’m pleased to invite you to two events next week – each momentous in its own way:
It’s time again to raise a glass of hot cider to the conclusion of a successful semester, to the holiday season, and to you, the university community! Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to shed some semester-end stress as our campus transforms into a Winter Wonderland on Tuesday, December 14.
Practice your triple Lutz – or just try to stay on your feet – at the Clark Center Rink at 10 a.m. Then admire your colleagues’ (gingerbread) home decorating skills, build the perfect indoor snowperson, and enjoy some holiday cheer in the Campus Center Ballroom from 2 to 3:30 p.m. If you haven’t yet signed up for the snowperson competition and would like to, please email the Events Office. I hope to see you there.
I am proud to recognize the UMass Boston-Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Comprehensive Cancer Partnership Program for its receipt of a $13.7 million U54 grant from the National Institutes of Health.
This grant is a tremendous achievement for our College of Science and Mathematics and our College of Nursing and Health Sciences. It will not only elevate our university’s reputation for leadership in the study of health disparities in cancer treatment, it will also help our talented students and faculty continue their important work to eliminate such disparities on behalf of minority communities. The university community is invited to learn more about the grant and congratulate its principals and beneficiaries during a reception and poster presentation at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, in the Campus Center, first-floor terrace. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Lori-Anne Ramsay.
