This past Tuesday, the University of Massachusetts Boston welcomed guests from across the city as we hosted our 26th annual Community Breakfast, honoring Assistant District Attorney Daniel Mulhern and local philanthropist Carlos Vargas, of Vargas and Vargas Insurance in Dorchester.
The two honorees were chosen to receive the Robert H. Quinn Award for Outstanding Community Leadership and the Chancellor’s Award for Longstanding Community Commitment and Service, respectively. It was a pleasure to be able to celebrate their service to our community—and to host our friends and neighbors on campus.
Tuesday we also shared a wonderful event with friends and alumni of the university at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum, where we spent “A Special Evening with Irish Tenor Anthony Kearns.” I was particularly pleased to listen to one of our Irish studies students, Katie Oliver, present a reading as part of the program.
We will be opening our doors to the community again on April 9 at 6 p.m., when the university hosts a meeting in the Campus Center Ballroom to update our friends, neighbors, and the campus community on our construction plans and our progress on implementing our master plan. I encourage you to attend and learn about the important work that we have accomplished so far and the many projects that lie ahead. If you wish to attend, please RSVP on our website.
Have a great weekend.
