The University

Looking Ahead to 2025

Today UMass Boston is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Research/High institution and a community-engaged university. More than 16,000 undergraduate and graduate students learn from more than 900 faculty in 11 colleges. As part of efforts to realize its full potential as a great student-centered urban public research university, UMass Boston participated in a campuswide strategic planning process in 2010-2011 to develop a blueprint for the next 15 years. As the university embarks on this new plan requiring deeper, broader, and more rapid change than ever before, this commitment to the founders’ vision remains: to provide our students with opportunities “equal to the best.”
