The Venture Development Center (VDC) is UMass Boston’s business incubator for emerging technology and life sciences companies, seeking strategic growth opportunities. The VDC helps companies to accelerate time to market and receipt of investment capital, while keeping costs at a minimum level. The VDC does this through the many resources that a University located startup incubator has to offer, including experienced mentoring from seasoned entrepreneurs who successfully executed startups in the past, connections to interns, industry, and capital funding, as well as close proximity to UMass Boston’s faculty and university research. Opened in May 2009, the VDC offers state-of-the-art facilities, excellent service and early venture support programs, and a network in a package designed to meet the needs of startup ventures.
The 27 companies currently in residence at the VDC are in the healthcare, financial, electronics, security, commerce, social, artificial intelligence, energy, biotech and pharmaceutical industries. The founders are from 6 continents and 14 universities, including UMass, Harvard, MIT, Carnegie Mellon and Columbia, creating a unique global community.
The VDC offers a stunningly beautiful and well equipped 18,000 sf incubator in Wheatley building, with an access to every imaginable type of instrument and workspace for technology and life science, including an animal facility. See if you are qualified for the Innovation Voucher Program to get discounted access to UMass core facilities.
The VDC connects students to entrepreneurial companies and careers in the Boston area. We’ve helped over 175 students enter startupland in exciting, rewarding internships and jobs. Our entrepreneurs also lecture in classes, guide student projects and mentor budding entrepreneurs.
