Talented and Gifted (TAG) Latino Program

at the University of Massachusetts Boston

Summer TAG This five-week summer program at UMass Boston prepares 300 students for the following school year. Students take academic classes in the morning and recreational activities in the afternoon. The program is designed for Latino students, with a component dedicated to English Language Learners (ELL).
Vacation Academies TAG's winter and spring academies diminish learning-loss during the February and April school vacation weeks; introduce learning as a fun, interactive, and hands-on experience; and help students spend their free time productively. Students take one project-based class and present on the fifth day.
TAG in Arts TAG in Arts is a student-led theatre production company which provides theatre, dance, and music workshops with the goal of developing student self-identity and leadership through the arts.
Pa’lante College & Career Exploration TAG offers bilingual workshops, opportunities, and events for students and families to explore college and careers. Activities include bilingual workshops, college tours, speaker series, career-focused conferences, and college fairs.

The TAG Latino Program is a year-round program that has served the academic, personal, and social needs of Boston Public Schools (BPS) students since 1985.

The mission of the TAG Program is to ensure that Boston Public School Latino students and English Language Learners excel academically, socially, and personally, so as to improve their ability to succeed in high school and at the postsecondary levels.

Public/private partnership that changes lives

Through the sponsorship of UMass Boston, BPS, and private foundations, TAG partners with several middle and high schools to offer holistic services to approximately 600 students over 12 months. Integrated in each of TAG’s six components is intensive parental outreach and involvement. Students who participate in TAG and successfully complete high school are guaranteed admission to UMass Boston.
