Changing Coastal Environments
(ENVSCI 390)

A typical day will begin with a brief lecture to provide context for the day ahead whether in the field or the lab. The survey vessel is a 27-foot shallow draft boat and groups of four students will go with a survey team leader and a boat captain. No boat experience is necessary and surveys will be approximately 4-6 hours. Other students will work on land collecting beach pro les or work with the drone. All students will work on all as- pects of the mapping project.

Prerequisite: No pre-requisites are associated with this course.

GIT Data Collection and Field Methods
(ENVSCI 406)

Credits: 4
This course has 3 components: lecture, lab, and field data collection. The course is conducted at the UMass Boston campus for the first 2 weeks and at the UMass Boston field station on Nantucket for the third and final week. The course covers basic Geographic Information Technologies (GIT) and applications used to research, map, and analyze landward and coastal phenomena.

Prerequisite: EEOS 281 and EEOS 381 or permission of instructor.

$1,960 (The fee for this course covers instruction and housing on Nantucket. It does not cover meals or transportation to and from Nantucket.)

July 31 - August 11: UMass Boston (Monday - Friday, 12pm - 5pm), S-3-020 (Science Bldg, 3rd Floor, Room 020) GIT Lab
August 13 - August 19: Nantucket (6 nights at Gouin Village, Nantucket, MA; 5 full days of course work)
