UMass Boston

Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies

Welcome to the Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Department

UMass Boston's Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in the College of Liberal Arts draws inspiration from feminist movements, advocating for social justice on local, national, and global scales. An interdisciplinary field, where knowledge is cultivated through research, education, and advocacy.

About Our Department

Our work is inspired by the long histories of feminist, queer, and transgender movements for social justice at local, national, and global levels. Our faculty is committed to equipping students with the analytical skills to understand and communicate about structural inequalities rooted in factors like sex/gender, race/ethnicity, class, sexuality, religion, and nationality. We strive to foster students' personal growth, intellectual development, political engagement, and social activism. Additionally, we promote collaborative exchanges and program innovations both on and off-campus.
