Education & Human Development

Do you have a passion for teaching and developing the best in others? Consider a major or minor in education to begin your teaching career in the College of Education and Human Development.

You will have the opportunity to explore a career in teaching through:

  • Coursework - You will engage in coursework around growth and development, instructional strategies, teaching diverse learners, and more
  • Field Experiences - You will have the opportunity to gain student teaching experience through one of our partnering urban, K-12 public schools, early childhood centers, and Early-Interventions programs.

CEHD Offerings

Major: Early Education and Care in Inclusive Settings (EECIS)
Concentrations (all EECIS majors are required to select one concentration):

  • Preschool Education and Care
  • Leadership and Supervision
  • Early Intervention
  • Infant Toddler Care and Education
  • Early Childhood Licensure (Pre-K - Grade 2)

Minor: Education Studies, with pathways leading to Massachusetts Initial Teacher Licensure in grades 5-12 in the following subject areas:

  • English
  • History
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Spanish
  • Math*
  • Biology*
  • Chemistry*
  • Earth Science*
  • Music**

Please note: If you are interested obtaining licensure within Education Studies, you must major in the area the subject you want to teach (i.e. if you wish to teach Spanish, you must major in Spanish and minor in Education Studies).

*Students in the College of Science and Mathematics who are interested in studying in these areas should consider the UTeach program.
