Description:
A study of social, technological, and cultural changes in nineteenth-century Britain as reflected in the large-scale novel of social life that reached its peak of popularity as a literary form in several modes including historical fiction, romance, and realism. Novels by such authors as Scott, Austen, the Bront Thackeray, Dickens, Eliot, Gaskell, Hardy, Meredith, and Conrad.
