Wellness Coaching Techniques

The overarching aim of this course is to familiarize the student with evidence-based counseling strategies that can be used to improve healthy lifestyle habits through theory-based health behavior change programs. Students will learn how to take the theories and strategies from Health Behavior Change, with a particular emphasis on the transtheoretical model, social cognitive theory, cognitive and behavioral strategies, and relapse prevention, and apply them during one-on-one counseling sessions. This course focuses on a client-centered approach to counseling which includes learning and practicing motivational interviewing techniques.
