Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) are specifically trained, certified professionals skilled in performing quality forensic medical exams, used to gather DNA evidence - such as bodily fluids, hair, and skin cells - and document injuries sustained during an attack. DNA evidence must be collected within five days of an assault.

All major hospitals in the Boston area have access to SANE nurses who are trained to deliver medical intervention and forensic medical examinations for victims of sexual assault. In addition, the following hospitals have specific violence prevention programs:

Walk the HarborWalk & Grace Trail

The 800-foot section of the HarborWalk is located on university property between the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum and Harbor Point apartments. This section is easily accessed by crossing Mount Vernon Street and following the walkway between the Harbor Point apartments and campus parking Lot D.
The UMass Boston Harborwalk Grace Trail is a self-guided one-mile walk along the Harborwalk from Fox Point dock to Harbor Point housing. It includes five letters (G-R-A-C-E), which invite the following questions to explore while you walk:
  1. What am I GRATEFUL for?
  2. What can I RELEASE to move on?
  3. What do I need to ACCEPT right now?
  4. How can I bring courage to my next CHALLENGE?
  5. What can I EMBRACE as possible?

More About the GRACE Trail
