Amy Sue Hazel, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts is an experienced Theatrical Scenic Designer and Scenic Painter.

Additional Information
Amy Sue Hazel is an experienced Theatrical Scenic Designer and painter. Prior to her role at UMass Boston, she held the position of Scenic Charge Artist at First Stage Children's Theater in Milwaukee, WI. During her time there she led the painting of 40 shows, including notable productions such as Elf: The Musical, Matilda: The Musical, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and The Wiz. In addition, she worked as a Scenic Designer and Painter for various small theatres in the local area.
Professor Hazel has been an active member of The United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) and The International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) since 2013.
Her first Contribution here at UMass was in Fall 2022 as the Associate Scenic Designer and Scenic Charge Artist for Working: The Musical. Then returned in the Spring to work as the Scenic Designer and Painter for The Government Inspector. She is looking forward to contributing her knowledge and experience to future productions and hopes to expand the Technical Theatre program here at UMass Boston.
