Camille Curtis Martinez (PhD, University of Massachusetts, Amherst) is a Lecturer in Communication. She specializes in environmental communication with a focus on biodiversity and ecological intimacies with sharks, bees and insects in a time of extinction. More recent work focuses on mass media representations of geo-engineering and the communication practices of activists shaping a just transition and carbon removal. Prior to UMass Boston, Camille worked as a Communication Manager and Editor for University of Puerto Rico Sea Grant and Earthwatch respectively. Dr. Martinez designs and teaches courses on environmental communication, intercultural communication, communication research methods, and public speaking. Her pedagogy is shaped by connectivism and experiential learning theories with a strong focus on project and team-based learning.
