Biography

Professor Edmonds’s research focuses on improving the quality and equity of maternal healthcare, with particular emphasis on reducing cesarean birth rates, enhancing childbirth experiences and outcomes, supporting perinatal decision-making, and advancing best practices in perinatal nursing.

Dr. Joyce K. Edmonds is an academic and healthcare professional with expertise in maternal health, public health, and health services research. She received an MPH from Oregon Health Sciences University and a PhD from Emory University. She has academic experience at institutions like Boston College and Ariadne Labs, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Institute for Midwifery and Reproductive Health at ZHAW in Switzerland.

Currently, she is Professor and Department Chair at University of Massachusetts Boston, Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Department of Nursing. She also serves as Editor-in-Chief of JOGNN a leading journal in nursing and is a Senior Research Scientist at Ariadne at Harvard School of Public Health.  Dr. Edmonds has developed curricula, mentored students and professionals, and fostered future leadership in midwifery, nursing and public health.
