Manu Thakral's area of expertise is in translational research to support evidence-based practice for chronic pain care in ambulatory settings. Her program of research includes comparative effectiveness studies of opioid risk reduction initiatives, population-based studies of elders with chronic pain and disability, randomized trial of scalable cognitive behavioral interventions for comorbid insomnia and pain, and pragmatic trial utilizing electronic claims and administrative data to study addiction and chronic pain. Her goal is to improve quality of life for individuals with chronic pain, addiction and disability. Thakral plans to further the profession of nursing by contributing to the body of knowledge to expand the independent practice of the registered nurse to provide multidisciplinary and holistic approaches to chronic pain in ambulatory care settings.
