In the opening remarks before the guests speak at the event, a representative of the government will talk about the urgency in prioritizing children as part of climate resilience and adaption measures.

Keynote 2: From Climate Crises to Climate Resilience: a Global Overview of Regional Summits
Keynote Speaker: Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, Member of the Council of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences & Chancellor of UMass Boston.
Based on the pillars of MAST (Mitigation, Adaption and Social Transformation), the representative of PASS will present the legacy built throughout the round of regional summits, and which will result in the delivery and presentation of a Universal Protocol for Climate Resilience at the Summit in Vatican City in 2027.

Panel 1: Children and Education Systems at the Heart of Adaption Plans
Based on a global overview and regional Brazilian cases, the speakers discuss the role of education systems in contributing to the safety and well-being of the school community and the continuity of learning even in adverse situations. The discussion will focus on topics like curriculum, school contingency plans, resilient infrastructure and community engagement.

Panel 3: Climate Justice and Children: Loss, Damage and Pathways to an Equitable Transition
The climate crisis is also a human rights crisis. Children, adolescents, and historically vulnerable communities suffer disproportionally with its impacts. This panel, which gathers experts who work with combatting environmental racism, will present proposed actions and pathways of adaption and real resilience, both ongoing or to be implemented. The panelists also discuss the participation of climate justice in COP30.

One of the greatest current challenges in Brazilian cities is to advance in the elaboration and implementation of adaption and contingency plans. In this panel, the participants will discuss the need for articulated work for the enforcement of these policies and how different government entities can collaborate on integrated initiatives that protect children and adolescents.
