Overview
The Inaugural Sexual Assault Awareness Summit is hosted by UMass Boston's Committee on Sexual Violence Prevention Education. The Committee is chaired by Brikitta Hairston, M.Sc., the Title IX and Civil Rights Investigator for Students. She initiated this committee for the goal of centralizing the sexual violence prevention efforts across the campus community. The purpose of this summit is to foster an environment comprised of UMass Boston students, faculty, and staff for the goal of highlighting the importance of sexual violence prevention education in Higher Education. The keynote workshop of the day covers Title IX in Higher Education: Addressing Sexual Violence in Higher Education.

Brikitta Hairston, M.Sc., UMB Title IX Office for Students - Panelist Brikitta Hairston, a Title IX and Civil Rights compliance professional, upholds the Title IX Amendment of the Federal Education Act of 1965 by directly addressing sexual assault, harassment, and gender-based violence on college campuses through administrative investigative processes. She is the UMass Boston Title IX and Civil Rights Investigator for Students and Chair of the Committee on Sexual Violence Prevention Education.
The Committee on Sexual Violence Prevention Education
The Committee is a body of campus partners responsible for organizing awareness events surrounding sexual violence in Higher Education. The Committee is a centralized body for comprised of various student affairs campus partners, charged to uphold the welfare of the students, faculty, and staff of the University. By creating a network of staff, faculty, and student-serving organizations, the University (UMass Boston) invests in community engagement, a campus understanding of sexual respect, and comprehensive of interpersonal relationship violence through this Committee on Sexual Violence Prevention Education.
