Student health insurance carrier - Blue Cross Blue Shield - Academic 2023-2024 Policy Year Info

In accordance with the State of Massachusetts “Student Health Program - SHP” (previously called QSHIP), students enrolled in 75% of the full-time curriculum in any Massachusetts institution of higher education required to participate in a school-sponsored qualifying SHP or an alternate health plan with comparable coverage. Students who are at least 75% of the full time curriculum are automatically billed for the SHP.  

Please note: All students billed for the Student Health Insurance must either “Confirm the enrollment” or “Waive with comparable coverage” via WISER.  Non-action by the deadline will result in enrollment by default. 

You cannot waive the Student Health Insurance Plan if you are covered by:

• Mass Health Limited
• Health Safety Net
• Children’s Medical Security Plan

*Deadline to waiver Spring 2024 Health Insurance is March 1st, 2024. 
(Failure to complete the Health Insurance Waiver on WISER/Finances by due date on bill may result in non-waivable late payment fees.)

The MassHealth Premium Assistance is no longer available. For questions regarding this program, please contact MassHealth at 1-800-841-2900.

Please contact University Health Plans (UHP) for questions relative to coverage and benefits at 1-833-251-1126 or access their website.

** Eligible International students must contact the Bursar’s Office to waive the insurance.

Undergrad students enrolled in less than 9 credits may be able to purchase health insurance through UMass Boston.  Please email us at Bursar@umb.edu for further information.

Please be advised that the Bursar’s Office will be temporarily changing the teller window hours for deposits and/or payments from Monday March 4^th through Tuesday April 30^th, 2024.  The window will be open for service between 12PM and 4PM.  If needed, you may use the Dropbox, which is located next to the teller’s window for depositing checks and, as always, students may also visit the One Stop to drop off checks for Tuition payments.
