An Interdisciplinary Research Institute That Enhances the Urban Land Grant University’s Mission of Teaching, Research, and Service
The Center for Social Development and Education (CSDE) is a multidisciplinary research and training institute whose mission is to promote the social development of children with disabilities and increase their success in school and the community. Unique to CSDE’s mission is the value it places on translating research to practice.
Operating through the center, Camp Shriver at the University of Massachusetts Boston welcomes children with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities to a free inclusive summer sports camp each summer.
New for 2023, Camp Shriver will be expanded with the Summer Stars program, welcoming children ages 7-8, entering the second grade, with and without behavioral, emotional, and/or learning challenges (e.g., ADHD).
We have dedicated this blog space to bring forward insights and ideas to the public. Blog posts are authored by individuals on our team and serve as introduction to topics like disability, SEL, school sports, as well as our research, conference presentations, and center activities.
