This course emphasizes supervised independent research into the adaptations and interactions of organisms of Nantucket's beaches, salt marshes, sand dunes, watershed, and embayments. Students will be exposed to tools, techniques and statistical analyses used in community ecology, oceanography and related fields. Individualized research projects have included in the past a wide variety of topics such as plant/animal interactions in the marsh, impact of nitrogen on marsh plants, and the impact of tidal cycles on plankton community dynamics.
Meets every weekday during two weeks of the summer at the University's field station on Nantucket. Pre Requisites: BIOL 210 or 252 or 290

Bunkhouse housing provides two bathrooms and two bedrooms of bunkbeds, shared full kitchen, dining room, and conference/lounge space.
Program participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from Nantucket Island. Information on ferries will be provided.

The total program fee* covers classroom instruction and housing on Nantucket. It does not cover meals, or transportation to and from Nantucket Island.

Participants are required to provide proof of health insurance coverage before registering for the program.
