New Student Programs hosts orientation sessions for all incoming students. Orientation is a great opportunity to ignite your excitement about the UMass Boston experience. You will meet other new students and current student leaders, hear from your academic advisors, learn about campus resources and opportunities available to you as a Beacon, register for classes, and much more.  Attending an orientation is mandatory for all new students.  Please visit our orientation sub-pages on to learn more about the orientation program designed for you as a new first-year, transfer or returning student.

These are a few tips that you may find helpful as you register for orientation:

• You can register for orientation through your Beacon Gateway.
• Before you register, you must pay your new student deposit.
  • It can take up to 2-3 business days for your deposit to process.
  • If you have questions about your deposit, please contact Undergraduate Admissions at 617-287-6100 or undergrad.admissions@umb.edu. 
• Once you are logged into the Beacon Gateway, click on the ‘Register for Orientation’ button which can be found on the events tab.
  • Follow through to the end of the questionnaire and be sure to click REGISTER at the end to complete your reservation.
• You may make changes to your registration, including selecting a new date, by emailing orientation@umb.edu.
  • All changes must be made 48 business hours before your selected orientation date. 
• Reminder emails will be sent to your new UMass Boston email address and application email. Please check it regularly for updates on your orientation.
