Current Research Projects
Understanding Breastfeeding Grief in the Perinatal Period: A Mixed Methods Study (BREGMIM)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a substantive grounded theory of breastfeeding grief and examine its contributions to postpartum depressive (PD) symptoms.
Enrollment Currently Open: We are currently recruiting mothers who: (a) are 18 years or older (eligible participants must be 19 years or older if living in Alabama and Nebraska, and 21 years if living in Mississippi); (b) have access to Zoom and can complete an online survey; (c) can speak and read English; (d) have a biological child who is alive; and (e) are experiencing profound sadness as a result of an unexpected breastfeeding experience.
Eligible participants will complete a virtual interview for about 45 minutes and an online survey for about 15 minutes. Participants can receive up to $50 amazon gift card for completing both interview and survey.

Postnatal Depression and the Experience of Breastfeeding Grief Among African American Women (2024-2025)
The purpose of this project was to examine breastfeeding grief among African American women and how this may contribute to postpartum depressive symptoms.
