If you want to pursue a medical degree in dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine, or allied health professions, consider UMass Boston’s Pre-Med & Allied Health Program. Because of the high competition in medical programs, it’s to your advantage to plan out your path well in advance. This program is an excellent first step. 

The Pre-Medical & Allied Health Program focuses on multiple science disciplines, with an emphasis on Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Social Sciences.

This program equips you with the academic foundation you need to succeed in your pursuit of a medical degree. With early planning, thorough coursework, and diligent preparation for admission tests, you’ll be on the path to realizing your aspirations in the medical and health fields.

How to Apply/Declare

Current Undergraduate Students: Submit an Undergraduate Program Add/Change form after completing at least three semesters of coursework in math and science with at least a 3.2 GPA in all premedical courses (excluding labs).

Recommendations

Highly competitive medical schools may require a full year of calculus (MATH 140 and 141 or MATH 145 and 146) and completion of calculus-based physics (PHYSIC 113 and 114). The following courses are also recommended:

Completion Requirements

Complete ten courses (excluding labs) from biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, mathematics, and social science courses.

GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required from all program courses.
Residency: At least six courses applied toward the program must be completed at UMass Boston.
