About the Dean

Robin Côté was appointed dean of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) at the University of Massachusetts Boston in August 2019. 

Côté most recently served as the associate dean for the Division of Physical Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut, where he also oversaw Graduate Studies. In his position there, he was involved with strategic planning for budgeting, staffing, and external reviews of departments; faculty development; and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Dean Côté's research interests focus on ultracold physics and chemistry, quantum information science, and mesoscopic systems. His scholarly activities encompass 136 publications with more than 8,000 citations. Over the past six years, Dean Côté has been awarded grants totaling more than $3 million. He has received numerous honors, including the Willis E. Lamb Award for Laser Science and Quantum Optics, the APS Outstanding Referee Award, and the Cottrell Research Innovation Award.

Côté is a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering, a member of the NASA Fundamental Physics Science Standing Review Board (FPSSRB), and a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), where he has been a member of the APS Panel on Public Affairs. As part of FPSSRB, he oversaw the development of the Cold Atom Laboratory that was launched to the International Space Station in 2018. 

Côté earned a BSc in physics from the Université du Québec à Rimouski, an MSc in physics from Université Laval, and a PhD in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
