Computer Lifecycle Management
Read about the university's standards about university-owned computers.
- If you need a computer for a new hire, replacing an existing device, or other reason, visit our Request a Computer page and look inside the section that best matches your need. Departments can not use their general operating funds to purchase computers.
-
When an employee leaves the university, all computers assigned to the employee should be returned to IT. If the position is refilled, the new hire is entitled to a new computer. IT can assist with backing up the files from the device if needed.
-
When an employee transfers to a different position within the university, their computer should transfer with them. IT can assist with revoking any access or files if needed.
-
The university has a "One Computer Per Person" standard, stating that for most employees, they should only need one computer to do their job. If this presents difficulties, IT can assist in meeting your needs.
-
If any standards or policies don't meet the your business needs, the university's Computer Lifecycle Policy has an Exception Request process through which you can appeal for support. Contact IT to get help with this.
