PreHealth Student Organizations

How to get involved

As a student interested in a health care field it is important and a benefit to get involved in extracurriculars.

We encourage you to consider volunteer opportunities as well as getting involved on UMass Boston's campus. There are many student run organizations that are Pre-Health focused. Please see below for what established groups are on campus for you to join.

Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta)

Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Since its founding in 1922, more than 175,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 430 chapters have been established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Thanks to the dedication and efforts of Dr. Alexia Pollack, Associate Professor, Biology Department (alexia.pollack@umb.edu), the Theta Omicron Chapter of the TriBeta was founded at UMass Boston in May 2004. Associate Membership in TriBeta is available to students of all majors with an interest in the biological sciences. Students who have successfully completed Cell Biology and Genetics, with a B average (3.0 G.P.A.) in those classes, are eligible for Regular Membership. Graduate, Alumni, and Honorary Memberships are also available and anyone interested in becoming a member should contact Prof. Pollack for details. Since TriBeta is an honor society, participation and involvement is not only encouraged but also expected. As your are finding ways to get involved on campus, we hope you will come check us out and see how easy and rewarding it is to be part of TriBeta! Non-members are also welcome to attend our meetings and activities. Read more about Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta)  »

Pre-Dental Society

The PDS consists of students who are interested in pursuing a career in Dentistry. Dental medicine is a fantastic and diverse field with incredible opportunities, but getting there is challenging and requires a lot of dedication and hard work. The purpose of the UMass Boston Pre-Dental Society (PDS) is to provide a forum to serve the special needs of UMass Pre-Dental students, or students who are or may be interested in the dental profession. The PDS facilitates networking opportunities for students with both clinical and academic dental industry professionals and with each other. We provide support to each other through every phase of the dental school application process, from the decision to pursue dentistry, to taking the DATs, finding an internship and opportunities for community service, to working on the applications, and finally to acceptance into school. Read more about Pre-Dental Society  »
