Application Requirements

• Official college transcripts from all institutions attended 
  • Bachelor’s degree conferred by application deadline*
    • *Fall applicants with a May graduation date are welcome to apply. Degree conferral must be received by June 1. All prerequisites must still be completed by the application deadline.
  • If your college transcripts are not modeled on the American system, a professional course-by-course evaluation of your international academic coursework will also be required. For more information, view our international transfer credit guidelines.
• $60 application fee
• Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores are optional
  • If provided, exam results will be included in the application review process
  • If submitting TEAS scores, it is recommended to have an overall score of 68 and a science score of 68. Competitive applicants have between 75-80 minimum. Review this FAQ for more information about our TEAS policies.

  • 250-Word Essay: UMass Boston’s Accelerated Nursing program is designed to blend high quality clinical experiences with online didactic learning. Successful students must be flexible, adaptable, and self-directed. Please describe a time when you independently learned a complex task. What was the task? What resources did you utilize to learn it? What did you learn about yourself during this process?
• Two Recommendation Letters
• Accelerated Nursing Prerequisite Form - will be made available in Beacon Gateway upon application submission

Students who previously attended UMass Boston as a degree-seeking student must apply via the UMass Boston Application and cannot submit the Transfer Common Application.

Admission Criteria

• Required minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (includes all undergraduate institutions attended)
• Required prerequisite GPA of 3.3

Prerequisite Courses 

The following prerequisite courses must be completed prior to the application deadline, coursework cannot be in progress. 

For applicants applying for the summer 2027 and fall 2027 semesters:

• The following courses must be a C or higher: 
  • Intro Sociology or Intro Psychology (3 credits)
  • Statistics (3 credits)
• The following courses must be a C+ or higher:
  • Human Growth & Development through the Lifespan (3 credits)
  • Nutrition (3 credits)
• The following courses must be a C+ or higher, include a lab, and be completed within the last 10 years: 
  • Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits)
  • Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credits)
  • Microbiology (4 credits)

For applicants applying for the spring 2028 semester or later:

• The following courses must be a C or higher:
  • Intro Psychology (3 credits)
  • Statistics (3 credits)
• The following courses must be a B or higher:
  • Human Growth & Development through the Lifespan (3 credits)
  • Nutrition (3 credits)
• The following courses must be a B or higher, include a lab, and be completed within the last 10 years:
  • Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits)
  • Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credits)
  • Microbiology (4 credits)

Prerequisite Equivalency:

To confirm if your courses are equivalent to the required prerequisites, you are encouraged to reference UMass Boston’s Transfer Course Database, Transferology. If your course does not have an established equivalency in Transferology, you are welcome to submit a request for the course to be evaluated. 

Prerequisite courses must be taken at the undergraduate level and cannot be taken on a Pass/Fail basis. For prerequisites that require a lab component, the lecture and lab must be taken in conjunction with one another and cannot be taken through separate courses or institutions.

AP Statistics may be used towards the Statistics prerequisite with an exam score of 4 or higher. AP Psychology may be used towards the Introduction to Psychology prerequisite with an exam score of 4 or higher. Official AP exam score reports must be sent directly from the College Board and received by the application deadline. Please note that CLEP and IB credit cannot be used towards the required prerequisites.
