New Student Health & Wellness Information
Welcome to UMass Boston! University Health Services (UHS) is your on-campus resource for healthcare, mental health support, wellness, and health education throughout your time at UMass Boston.
Before you start classes, there are a few important health and wellness steps to complete. Use this page as your checklist, and keep your My Health Beacon Portal login handy — it's your main hub for managing your UHS health information.
Your New Student Health Checklist:
1. Log In to the My Health Beacon Portal
Your My Health Beacon Portal is your secure online connection to UHS.
You can use the portal to:
- Message UHS providers securely
- Upload immunization and health documentation
- Check your immunization compliance status
- Upload insurance information
- Complete or update your health history
- Schedule and cancel appointments
- View and manage other health information
Tip: Make sure your contact information is up to date, including your cell phone and carrier, so you can receive appointment reminders and other UHS communications.
2. Complete Your Health Requirements
Completing your health requirements before you arrive can help prevent delays with registration and make it easier to access care when you need it.
Immunizations & TB Requirements
Most students are required to provide documentation of certain immunizations. All students must complete the Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Screening Form.
Submit your required health documentation through the My Health Beacon Portal.
An IMM registration hold may be placed on your account if required health documentation is not submitted by the applicable deadline.

3. Check Your Health Insurance
Your health insurance is separate from your UHS healthcare services.

4. Know How to Access Care at UHS
UHS is here for more than required health forms. You can use UHS throughout your time at UMass Boston for medical care, mental health support, wellness resources, and health education.
General Medicine
UHS General Medicine provides care for a wide range of health needs, including preventive care, illnesses and injuries, sexual and reproductive health , illness and injury care, sexual and reproductive healthcare, mental health support, and other health and wellness needs.

Counseling Center
The UHS Counseling Center provides mental health support for UMass Boston students. Services include initial consultations, brief and focused individual therapy, crisis intervention, medication evaluations, groups and workshops, and referrals to off-campus care when appropriate. All enrolled UMass Boston students are eligible for Counseling Center services at no cost, regardless of insurance.
Getting started is simple: schedule an initial consultation with a counselor to talk about what's going on and explore what type of support may be most helpful for you.

5. Under 18? Complete a Minor Consent Form
Students under 18 must have parental or guardian consent to receive medical care at UHS, as required by Massachusetts law.

Once completed, submit the form to UHS:

- Digital Upload: Upload the completed form through the My Health Beacon Portal
6. Required Bystander Intervention Training
UMass Boston requires students to complete bystander intervention training during their first semester.
The training provides students with practical skills for recognizing and responding to situations involving harassment, sexual violence, and other concerning situations.
You will receive an email from Vector Solutions with instructions for completing the training, or you can visit https://umbstudents-ma.safecolleges.com/ to get started. The training takes approximately 75 minutes to complete.
Students who do not complete the training by the applicable deadline may receive a Wellness Education (WEH) registration hold, which can prevent course registration.
Once you complete the training, allow time for your completion to be processed and the hold to be removed.
