Community Service Opportunities

A particular emphasis on community service opportunities exists in the Federal Work-Study Program, and UMass Boston offers a wide variety of positions to meet this need. Please consider using your FWS eligibility at one of the over two dozen community agencies that have contracted with Student Employment Services to offer community service FWS jobs to UMass Boston students. Community service employers are located throughout Dorchester and the Boston area and have included:

  • Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester
  • Brookline Public Library
  • Dorchester House Multi Service Center
  • Museum of Fine Arts
  • Quincy Asian Resources, Inc
  • Wang YMCA of Chinatown

America Reads

UMass Boston is also an active participant in the America Reads Challenge. America Reads is a national program aimed at meeting the goal of helping every child to read by the third grade. UMass Boston has partnerships with three area organizations to provide opportunities for our students to work as reading tutors and in family literacy programs. If you are interested in using your FWS eligibility to help children learn to read, contact one of our partners to find out more about their program.
