Stonewall at OLLI

The Stonewall at OLLI Special Interest Group is made up of LGBT members who wish to share educational, social and cultural experiences together and with the larger UMass Boston community. The UMass Boston OLLI is the only one of the 117 nationwide OLLIs with an LGBT SIG (Special Interest Group).

Our members serve on the OLLI Board and the Curriculum, Theatre, and Travel committees as well as being active in facilitating classes and brown bag programs. In our meetings, members brainstorm topics of interest that lead to larger OLLI events, brown bags and study groups related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. There is outreach to UMass Boston’s Gerontology Department, the Gay/Straight Student Alliance, and the Q Center. In addition, a website,, was built by members. It includes a link to the OLLI website as well as news and activities for LGBT seniors in Massachusetts.

Last year the Boston Foundation Equality Fund awarded OLLI $10,000 to expand programming and outreach to LGBT adults age 50+ in Stonewall at OLLI. This enables the hiring of a part-time coordinator to help in facilitating membership growth as well as offerings of courses and brown bag speakers by LGBT people.

Come and be part of this exciting groundbreaking group. All are welcome. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 11:30 a.m. during fall and spring semesters, usually in the OLLI Lounge, McCormack Hall, 3rd floor.

For more information about the group, call the OLLI office at 617.287.7312 or email and ask how to be connected to a Stonewall at OLLI member. You may also ask to receive meeting notices.
