GEO Emergency Support Fund

The emergency support fund is now accepting applications for emergencies that took place from the end of the spring semester to the present. Apply to the GEO Emergency Fund.

Purpose of the GEO Emergency Support Fund:

The Emergency Support Fund (ESF) aims to support graduate employees through unforeseen circumstances and emergencies by providing up to $800 to cover these needs. To apply for the fund, applicants need to be current graduate student employees. Applicants will be asked to provide documentation/evidence to support their need and may be asked for additional information during the review process. Providing sufficiently detailed documentation (such as copies of receipts, medical bills, relevant email correspondence) in your application may expedite the processing of your application.

The fund is not meant to cover ongoing costs such as university tuition, university fees, and living expenses. The GEO Emergency Support Fund requests are intended for one-time events, and subsequent requests will only be considered in different circumstances from the first request. Priority may be given to members who have not yet made use of these funds.

Examples of Approved Requests

Replacement of school equipment or books due to an accident or theft; cost of food or temporary living expenses due to housing problems, or domestic violence; visa renewal; or legal representation related to immigration or other forms of discrimination.

Applicants may be contacted by a member of the Emergency Support Fund (ESF) committee for additional or clarifying information. In certain cases, members may be directed to UMB’s Emergency Aid Fund or referred to on-campus resources.

Completing the Form

Please include all information requested. Supporting documentation should include any information that will support statements in your narrative. For example, if you state that you have lost your job, please include any emails or other communication that show that you have lost your employment. Claims that are not sufficiently documented may not be considered. Providing sufficient documentation may expedite your application processing.
