UMass Boston

Resuscitation Quality Improvement

UMass Boston was selected as a National League for Nursing (NLN) Change Agent for the Resuscitation Quality Improvement® Program.  In collaboration with the NLN, Laerdal Medical, and RQI Partners, NLN Change Agents will help advance transformation of the standard of resuscitation care for cardiac arrest and prepare future nursing professionals to respond to these events competently and confidently — leading to improvement in survival rates. Together, we will perfect and deliver a highly reliable, progressive, quality program to fulfill our shared mission to further the health of the nation and the global community, to achieve excellence in nursing education, and most importantly, to help save more lives.

HeartCode® is the official American Heart Association (AHA) self-directed eLearning program allowing learners to take BLS, ACLS, and PALS online as an alternative to the traditional classroom-based courses.  Once the online portion of the HeartCode® course has been completed, users practice and test their skills by using the self-directed course with the HeartCode voice-assisted-manikin (VAM) system.

Courses Available

HeartCode 2025 BLS Complete: Upon successful completion of online course, skills practice, and testing session, learners will receive an AHA BLS for Health Care Providers course completion card. This card is valid for two years.

RQI 2025 Health Care Provider: The card received from RQI will indicate a two-year certification. As learners complete each quarterly activity, their certificate expiration date is “rolled-forward” for an additional 90 days.

*Effective April 2024, all nursing students entering NU226 will enroll in the RQI 2025 Health Care Provider course.

Invalid selections will result in the cancellation of the order.  Refunds will not be issued.  After completing the self-directed course, users will self-schedule an appointment to demonstrate the skills portion in the Center for Clinical Education & Research.
