University of Massachusetts Boston Department of Asian Studies

Asian Studies Department

Asian Studies aims to give students a broad knowledge of specific regions of Asia, treating each region from the perspective of a number of different academic disciplines (anthropology, art, economics, film, history, languages, literature, philosophy, political science, religion, sociology, and women’s and gender studies).

UMass Boston currently offers an East Asian track for the Asian studies major as well as two minors, covering the cultural region of East Asia (China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam). A South Asia track for the major will be launched in fall 2013.
