About Our Department

UMass Boston's Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (MLLC) offers language courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Vietnamese, catering to both language learners and students seeking to explore world cultures. Our dedicated faculty, a mix of accomplished scholars and passionate educators, provides students with a rich and immersive learning experience. Through our English-taught global culture courses, we aim to develop knowledge of a second language and an awareness of cultural diversity. Many courses are interdisciplinary, and these count towards General Education requirements, including areas such as art, humanities, world cultures, and international diversity.
